Memories of Fiona

Created by Sonia 2 years ago

I spent the last 13 years working with Fiona. My first meeting is memorable as she was interviewing me even then her kindness shone through. I then shared an office for a time and latterly supported her in her role as head of the Tommy’s centre. My final face to face meeting was with Fiona as we attempted to plan home working. She was coughing and offered reassured that she was fine and it was sinusitis - it turned out to be Covid. I have many memories of Fiona over the years sitting in the office in her jacket, as it was freezing cold!  The open competition to name the Birthing Mirror - which we all had to enter. One of the research midwives gave it an unofficial name, which stuck even Fiona used it occasionally as it made us all laugh, so much. If you told her how lovely she looked she always rebuffed it with some quip. Fiona was gentle and kind and yet she had a core of steel and determination.

Fiona’s academic and clinical achievements, have left a lasting legacy. However, her greatest and proudest accomplishment without a doubt was her family. Her boys were often a topic of discussion and immense pride. Adventures Skiing, a road trip through Namibia and many highland adventures.  I am extremely saddened by her loss and for all she had yet to achieve. I send my sincere condolences to Gordon, David, James, her parents and wider family members.

Fiona you were and are still an inspiration to all who knew you. You will truly be missed and forever remembered.
