I have been deeply saddened by the news of Fiona's death.  I remember well interviewing her for membership of the NICE Medical Technologies Advisory Committee and the immediate impression she made.  What a wonderful and sparky committee member!  She later, rather tentatively, asked my advice about applying to be Vice-Chair and I encouraged her most strongly.  She was a clear thinker and spoke her mind cogently.   She had a lovely combination of the warmest smile and manner, with a look that said clearly "Don't mess with me!"  Losing Fiona is tragedy: my heart goes out to her family and all those close to her.
