Working with Fiona

Fiona was one of a kind. I loved working with her at MRC CRH– our Centre's Festival in 2018 (themed around the Metabolic Antenatal Clinic, about which she was so passionate) had to be a highlight. We had so many attendees that we could barely fit everyone in the venue and Fiona couldn’t stop laughing…her and I had been panicking that morning that it wouldn’t be popular enough and had run around CRH/ RIE frantically trying to encourage more people to come along.
We once co-ordinated a Ministerial visit together and planned to organise the attendance of some past patients of Fiona's as case studies, to talk about how the Metabolic Antenatal Clinic had helped them. It was very easy to recruit volunteers as soon as you mentioned Fiona's name; they were eager to assist someone who had shown them so much kindness, understanding and support (as well as exceptional care and skill as a doctor).

Fiona was one of these people who seemed to be great at everything she tried yet remained very humble and self-deprecating, with a wicked sense of humour. She always found the time to undertake press and engagement activity despite her busy schedule, as she was so focused on raising awareness of maternal medicine. She was constantly thinking about others.
Her birth mirror creation and all the prizes this device accrued are testament to Fiona’s entrepreneurial skill and drive to succeed.

Fiona passed on her bubbling enthusiasm and energy to everyone she came into contact with. What better legacy to leave behind…

Fiona, we will miss you terribly. Gordon, James and David: she spoke of you often with love and pride (and funny stories). My thoughts are with you and the rest of her family.
