I was terribly sad to hear of Fiona's death - a tragic long-term effect of the COVID pandemic. Fiona and I have always been academics at similar stages of our careers, but either side of the border. We received similar prizes and grants as we progressed, and shared interests in clinical trials, innovative devices, global health and retained placentas. I often looked out for her name to hear what she had done and how her career was progressing. And so it was always a pleasure to bump into her at a committee meeting or conference to share stories and ideas. She was always creative, dedicated, enthusiastic, caring and good company - the kind of academic that I aspired to be. I had always thought that it would be fun to collaborate on some research together - but sadly the opportunity never arose. We will all miss her - but thank her for all that she did for women worldwide. Prof Andrew Weeks
